Materials needed:

½ inch PVC pipe  -   sold in 10 foot length.  You will need about 4 ½ ft for 1 chair.  You can
make 2 chairs or save the extra pipe for another project.

8  -  PVC elbow connectors (90 degree angle)
4  -  3 way connectors

Cut list:   Usings a PVC pipe cutter or some other tool cut the pipe into pieces listed below.

6  -  5 inch pieces
2  -  4 ½ inch pieces
2  -  3 ½ inch pieces
4  -  1 ½ inch pieces

PVC Prep:

I used the 100% acetone nail polish remover to remove the print and bar codes from the PVC pipe and connectors.

*  I did not use PVC cement to permanently glue the chair together.
The PVC connectors fit snug and the chair was sturdy for a doll.   If you decide to glue the chair pieces together be sure to add the fabric sling prior to doing so or you could design the sling to attach with Velcro.

Fabric Sling:

Cotton, Twill, home deco fabrics.  I did use duck cloth for one of the chairs and it was too firm for my taste.

Fabric cut size:   6”  X  19 ¼   ”
Finished Sling size:    5”  X  14 ¼ ”

I crafted the finished sling to be 5” wide to cover the joints on the seat and headrest.   I’ve seen the chair covers made narrower to meet at the joint edges and I did not care for that look.

Fold over the two long edges of fabric ¼”,press and fold over again ¼”.  Stitch the folded edges in place with either a straight or zig-zag stitch.

Fold over the two short ends ½” and press.  Fold both short ends again 2 inches.  Stitch along the folded edge to create the casings to run the PVC pipe through.

Since I did not glue the chair frame together I pulled the frame  apart and
installed the sling as shown in the pictures below.   Then snapped the pieces back in place.

This is my first “pictorial”.  I enjoyed stumbling through  it’s creation.   I hope you find  it
helpful and make lots of chairs for your favorite 18” dolls.

    1. You're welcome!!! I too had wanted to make this type of chair for my Granddaughters dolls and had searched the web for instructions. I found pictures of various chairs but no instructions. I was getting desperate as my Granddaughter were coming for their annual visit. Running out of time I just had to make the leap and figure it out as I built it. Have fun making it.

    1. Hi Heather,
Roughly about $6.00 per chair for the PVC pieces. The fabric varies as I got it on sale 40 - 50% off with coupons at several different places probably $0.50 - $0.75. I think that's an awesome idea as a favor for a birthday party. They are so easy to make. don't take a lot of time. If you do make them please send me a picture I would love to see them.

  6. Just made this and it is very cute. I also put a slip on pocket on the arm of the chair (same as the way the hammock fits on) for the doll's accessories. Thank you for the pattern!

  11. I Love these Chairs --have made 3 of them but I changed mine to CPVC Pipe and Like the size of pipe for the dolls better ---I also used my emery boards and Filed down the raised lettering as some of the Elbows and Tees I was getting had some really nasty points on them --found that since I used CPVC instead that the 19 1/4 for the set was to big ---so I started with 16 1/2 for the set and that worked better after sewing

    1. Thank you for posting....I love getting feedback and I will certainly check out what CPVC pipe is. I had not thought of filing down the raised lettering but your method of filing them down seems easy and prudent to do. Your posting is under anonymous so you may never see my reply. If by any chance you do.....I would love to see a picture of your version using the CPVC pipe. Thank you.

  12. I am having a delightful time making this chair. I do work with a drummel tool but I thought the pvc pipe might be a little tough......so.......I made friends with the fellow at the farm store where I bought the pvc pipe and sweet talked him into cutting the pipe for me :) I'm not a cheap skate, I tipped him well, asked him his name and told him to expect me to be back asking for him. Thank you so much for this pattern. June Bug

  13. My 11yo whipped this up yesterday in about an hour for $7! Amazing. She cut 2 of the 5” pieces to be longer so it was a couch instead, and made pillows out of coordinating fabric. Thanks for the tutorial. She’s hoping to draft bunk beds next...
