So Sew Suzi's "Not really for Sale"

This is the "Not Really For Sale" page that I have created so my Granddaughters, Great Nieces and other very special little girls can come and select an outfit for their American Girl Doll.  I decided to create this page because I have not done a very good job of keeping track of what clothing items I have gifted to everyone already.  I decided to post pictures of my current inventory of AG doll clothing and invite the children to visit and select an outfit from time to time.

Most of the dresses come with a matching headband and purse with the exception of the Flower Power dress.  It comes with a headband only.

This page is a work in progress.  I will be posting additional pictures soon.  Tops and skirts coming next.

I found some cute fabric at a local quilt shop that I just had to buy.   I can't wait to see how the dresses look using this fabric.   If you like Lady Bugs then you will like this.

It's an awesome feeling of accomplishment to be able to take two squares of fabric and make them into something that will make a little girl smile.  This is the backside of the dress.   I had fun lining up the lady bug on the bow.
Front
I bought enough fabric to make 4 of these all with matching purses and headbands.

  1. Sew cute! What a legacy to leave, and I have to say, I just got into the same thing with my 5 y. o. grand daughter. My daughter, her mother, was never anything but a Barbie fan and I know I made my fair share of those, but these are sooo much more fun, I Appreciate it much!

  2. Cute dresses. And what a good idea to post them for the little ladies to choose from. I am trying to accept the fact that my granddaughters are just not into dolls as much as I always have been. I finally realized that I can have dolls if I want them and sew outfits to my heart's content! I have asked for Cecile for my (56th) birthday next week. Why not!!

    1. My daughter was never into dolls much either, but now has caught the bug due to Instagram and stop-motion movies that she is making with her American Girl dolls and then posting for other people to see. Look up Basilmentos in google search to see some examples of this trend (stop-motion movies with AG dolls) and maybe show your granddaughters!!

  3. What a very clever idea to make a page for your granddaughters to "shop" from! And also an excellent way for you to document outfits you have made. Thank you for sharing this with us. Your outfits are adorable. I love seeing the same pattern made up different ways.

  5. My grandmother made almost all of my doll clothes and Barbie doll clothes when I was little. They were the best. It is sad that she is no longer with us now that I have my American Girl dolls. Between her and my dearly departed aunt skills I would have the best wardrobe in the nation (next to your granddaughters, of course).

    Keep up the awesome work!

  6. Great idea, this Nanna is going to picture my extensive collection of fabrics on line for my grandaughters to choose. The two of the girls really are still into baby dolls as they are 2 & 3 and their older sister is 8 and their Aunt is 10.

    1. Extensive collection! I can imagine what that means. LOL I have quite a bit also. Though I have posted a few on my blog I was thinking of putting my entire stash on my Flicker page as I think it would be easier for them to view. Good luck with your fabric album.

  7. Hi Suzy! I first came across your wonderful clothes AND IDEAS through Pinterest. After that I was hooked! I check in regularly to see which patterns you've improved upon. What a positive influence you've had on me....I now download PDF patterns, print them off, put them into plastic sleeves and then into separate notebooks for dresses, coats etc. When my hard drive crashed, I still had my stuff! Thanks Suzi!

    1. You're welcome Barb. Glad you found my blog prior to your hard drive crash. I have been neglecting my sewing hobby and working a bit too much on my LEGO addiction. I had better get myself on track as Christmas is not too far away and I am sure my Granddaughters want new items for their dolls. Thanks again for the kind words.

  8. Hi, I love your site. So many cute ideas! I was just wondering if you could take a look at my Etsy site and maybe add it to your list. It is called Little Julie's Place and I sell 18 inch doll clothes. Thanks!
